Central Elementary hosted Manami Kawazoe, a Japan Outreach Initiative (JOI) Coordinator at West Liberty University from Kyoto, Japan, to work with students on multi-cultural activities and awareness.

Kawazoe presented to students in classrooms and taught them about Japan’s geography, culture, food and customs. Students learned to use chopsticks for a game and create origami crafts. They were excited to hear first-hand what her life in Japan was like and ask questions about her experiences. Kawazoe also met with some parents and community members to share her knowledge of Japanese Onigiri, rice balls and cook a traditional dish.
